Renault Twingo is a funky all-electric supermini with retro looks and a £17,000 price
Rebooted for the electric age, the 2026 Renault Twingo features retro styling reminiscent of the 90s original and a £17,000 price tag.
Renault has announced it will relaunch the classic Twingo supermini as an electric hatchback, with prices starting at under €20,000 (£17,000).
Unveiled at the company’s ‘Capital Market Day’, the prototype model shares a lot of it’s styling with the original Twingo model, produced between 1993 and 2007.
The most notable feature of the electric car is the semi-circular head and taillights, which give the model a cute bug-eyed look.
Other notable features include circular door handles, flared rear wheel arches and three pronounced air vents on the bonnet.
Whilst Renault have yet to share any images of the new Twingo’s interior, they have confirmed it will use sustainable materials.

Speaking at the event, Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault, stated that the revival of the Twingo is set to cause as much of a stir as the original.
He said: “[the Twingo] will be a game changer once again, like it was 30 years ago. This is a fit-for-purpose urban vehicle, state-of-the-art EV without compromise.’
The Twingo is set to be produced by 2026, by which time it will likely compete with the Volkswagen ID1, the new Fiat Panda and a number of Chinese-built models.

Renault have yet to announce any performance figures for the upcoming Twingo, however the company states that the EV will offer economy of up to 6.2 miles per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
This makes the model considerably more efficient than the current Renault Zoe EV, which can travel 4.59 miles per kWh.
Renault also claim that the new hatch will produce 75 percent less carbon dioxide compared to a typical petrol or diesel-powered car.

However, the upcoming Twingo reboot is not the only retro electric-powered model that will soon enter the Renault range.
From 2025 the company will also introduce a more upmarket EV supermini reminiscent of the Renault 5 and a compact-crossover similar to the Renault 4.
All of these models will be based on a new platform designed for electric vehicles and will be manufactured by Renault’s new electric sub-brand Ampere.
