Newcastle have also been linked with Neves and may have an advantage as they share the same owners as Al-Hilal. The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund controls both teams and the , allowing side to attempt to loan Neves as a replacement for the suspended Sandro Tonali.

That news will come as a blow to Arsenal and Campbell’s hopes of Neves heading to the Emirates. It seems the Gunners will have to turn their attention elsewhere should they wish to improve Arteta’s midfield.

Fluminense star Andre has been mentioned as a potential alternative to Neves and is also a target after a sensational season in Brazil.

However, the latest speculation suggests that as they can offer him a much bigger role in their squad.
