Woman found dead in estranged husbands storage unit with 'murderer' still on the run

A Florida woman has been found dead inside a storage unit belonging to her husband after a huge search involving the FBI.

Shakeira Rucker, 37, was found dead on Saturday, November 18 from apparent gunshot wounds inside a unit at the Self Storage of Wiggins Road in Apopka, Florida.

Her estranged husband, Cory Hill, is the prime suspect in the case, and he has not been cooperative in the case, police said.

Speaking at a news conference on Sunday, Sheriff John Mina said: “He is the suspect. We are not looking for anyone else. He will be charged with the murder eventually in this case."

Police were conducting a search for Rucker near Bob White Airfield in Mount Dora on Saturday when they received a 911 call from someone at the self storage reporting "a smell emanating from one of the units," Mina said.

Authorities currently believed Rucker was slain inside the storage facility, and a motive for her killing has not yet been established.

She was first reported missing on November 12 after her family became concerned for her.

Rucker was last seen leaving her home in Winter Springs with Hill at around 7.30pm on November 11.

Mikayla Rucker, 16, the victim's daughter, previously told FOX 35: "I just want my mom to come back."

Mina said Hill is already in the Orange County Jail, charged with four counts of attempted homicide, accused of shooting at his "girlfriend and family" on November 12.

It is understood that the "girlfriend" referred to by police was not Rucker, and the family was that of a former girlfriend.

In an update posted on Facebook, Orange County Sheriff's Office wrote: "Shakeira’s family was notified this evening. We grieve with them & our detectives are committed to bringing them justice in this case."

Winter Springs Police Chief Matthew Tracht said on Sunday: "It's not the outcome we expected, but there's a little bit of closure for Shakeira's family."

Tracht said several units and the FBI were involved in the search for Rucker, which spanned several days and counties in Florida.
