The delightful blend of crisp cool air and cosy fireside nights is hard to beat.

However, adding a taste of adventure through a visit to Lidl’s wine aisle and some special picks from their latest Autumn Wine Tour could make it even more enjoyable.

We've enlisted wine expert Richard Bampfield to take us on a tasting journey, from Austria to Australia, with his carefully curated list of limited editions and familiar favourites. Cheers!

This Austrian wine is a great choice if you like crisp, off-dry whites with a perfumed aroma. Well-balanced and supremely refreshing, it is an ideal match for Thai-style fishcakes or pâtés.

Red: Laureatum Tempranillo & Cabernet Sauvignon - £6.99*

This wine pairs perfectly with food, so enjoy it with grilled meats for a sumptuous dinner-time treat.

Made from organically grown grapes, this delightfully full-bodied red is sure to appeal to lovers of neighbouring Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Blended southern French wines like this often pair well with stews and casseroles, making it an appropriately autumnal choice.

Red: Bordeaux Château Les Tuileries - £6.99*

Australian producers have been making great Pinot Grigio for many years now, inspired by other countries' success with the grape. Typically crisp and dry, this refreshing white is versatile enough to be enjoyed with food or on its own.

Rosé: Dao Rosado - £6.49

Portugal have used their knowledge of rosé to full effect, with this attractively dry and flavoursome wine. Dao Rosado is easy to drink on its own but tastes even better with salmon or cold meats.

Red: Amarone Della Valpolicella - £15.99

An iconic wine style, often cited as the king of Italian wines, Amarone suits those who enjoy full-bodied, intense reds. Made from partially dried grapes, the bold aromas of baked plum provide extra richness and body on the palate.
