Comedian has opened up about the chaotic weekend that saw her get married and appear on in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk.

The A League of Their Own star, who has teamed up with KAYAK to find out jet-setters’ biggest turn-offs when it comes to flying, married her husband Michael Dobinson back in June.

The pair said ‘I do’ just one day before Maisie was set to play at stadium Old Trafford the following day.

Reflecting on the jam-packed weekend, Maisie said: “It was the day after my wedding, so I was hungover.

“For Soccer Aid, you go to the training camp on Thursday, Friday and Saturday - and I had to leave on Saturday to go get married!

“We got married in Brighton and then the next day, at 10 O'clock in the morning, a car comes to take you to Old Trafford.

“It was just such a surreal 48 hours because I got married and then was finding myself on a bus sat next to Nani (the Portuguese footballer) and across from Roberto Carlos and then on the other side there was Lee Mack.

“I just thought, ‘How have I ended up here?’ If you’d have told me as a little kid, ‘You'll be doing your dream job and the day after your wedding, you'll be sat next to one of your comedy heroes and two footballing legends ready to go and play at Old Trafford…’

“It was really one of those strange sort experiences where you watch yourself from above,” Maisie admitted. “But it was absolutely incredible.

“I was with so many of my idols, like Jill Scott who was on the England team, and there was a moment during training where we were taking penalties together and I was like, ‘This is mad, this is absolutely mad.’

“So, yeah, it’s been a seriously strange but wonderful year,” Maisie added happily.

Speaking more about how her eventful weekend came to be, the comic explained: “We got engaged in December 2021 and we planned the wedding with the date set for June…

“And then I've been wanting to do Soccer Aid for years; it was something that I grew up watching and I was always a big fan of it.

“I had really wanted to do it, but for a long time they didn't have… Well, they did have women playing, but they were all former professional footballers. And this year was the first time that they had [female celebrities].

Maisie then went on to recall the moment she realised two of the most important days of her life were set to clash, revealing: “I got the email asking if I'd like to be part of it and I was like, ‘Oh my god, amazing. Yes, yes, yes… When?!’

“Then I looked at the date in my diary and was like, ‘It's the day after my wedding. Oh God.’ In that moment I just thought, ‘Oh god, why is it that these two incredible days have come straight after each other?’

However, luckily Maisie has an incredibly supportive husband, who was thrilled that she was given such an amazing opportunity.

“I told my husband that I've been offered Soccer Aid and he was so chuffed for me because he knew how much it meant to me,” she said.

“And I told him, ‘But it's the day after our wedding’ - and this is when you know you're marrying the right person. “He was like, ‘Incredible! What a weekend! Let’s go!’

“It was strange as a Leeds fan to have honeymooned at Old Trafford,” she quipped, “But it was amazing and he went full WAG. He came up with me the next day to Manchester, and was watching from hospitality with two of his groomsmen - I think still in their suits, actually.

“It was great for him because he just sort of carried on - bit of hair of the dog,” Maisie added. “Whereas I had to try and play football with some of the world's greatest athletes - so not exactly the hangover cure you have in mind for the day after your wedding!”

Elsewhere in the interview, Maisie spoke about teaming up with KAYAK to conduct interviews at an airport to find out passengers’ biggest gripes with plane travel, admitting that it is “easy to get quite miffed” as a frequent flyer.
