Mrs Hinch fans share 'amazing' cleaning hack for removing pen ink from 'brand new' floors

Turning to Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, one dismayed member wanted to know how to get pen marks off of her brand-new flooring.

Posting anonymously, the member said: "Brand new flooring and a ballpoint pen leaked on it."

Feeling exasperated, the fan had tried all sorts, from all-purpose cleaner, Beckmann Stain Devils and acetone, but a blue stain still remained.

"Does anyone have any idea what else we could try please?" the fan pleaded, and cleaning enthusiasts came to the rescue.

Gina Newell posted: "Cif cream on a lightly damp cloth... very gentle rubbing. Cif cream is amazing."

There were other ideas too, from using hand sanitiser to The Pink Stuff paste, and a magic sponge.

Some members agreed that hairspray could do the job, but one fan cautioned: "Try it first under a piece of furniture in case it damages the floor."

One Mrs Hinch fan simply wrote: "Good luck." As to which cleaning hack the user decided to go with is yet to be revealed.

Cif Cream Cleaner Lemon is not suitable on linoleum, which is a floor covering made from materials such as solidified linseed oil, pine resin, ground cork dust, sawdust, and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate.

Luxury Flooring and Furnishings have warned that ink could stain flooring within 10 seconds.

Blue and black ink can soak into wooden, laminate and vinyl flooring extremely quickly.

If this happens to you

Should blue or black ink spill on your flooring, the first thing you need to do is act with speed.

You will need to grab a paper towel or cloth to try to soak up the ink but do not rub or spread the ink around at this stage.

The next step is to apply a few drops of surgical spirit to a cloth and gently rub away at the spill.

Do note this step is only advisable if the flooring is non-oiled solid wood flooring.

For laminate or vinyl flooring, a little bit of hairspray on a kitchen towel could help wipe away the ink.

You may need to repeat this process a few times in order for the stain to completely go.

So, while one Mrs Hinch fan recommended Cif, those who suggested hairspray were onto a winner.
