Novak Djokovic brought up as Andre Agassi makes joke about wife Steffi Graf leaving him

Andre Agassi has come up with a cunning plan that would see him challenge Novak Djokovic's all-time grand slam record - leave his wife Steffi Graf. American Agassi won eight slams and an Olympic gold medal during his illustrious career, including four Australian Open titles.

The Las Vegas-born star famously dated Barbra Streisand and Brooke Shields before marrying fellow tennis great Graf in October 2001.

His German other half is one of the most decorated players of all time, finishing her career in 1999 at the age of 30 with a then-record 22 grand slams to her name.

Agassi recently made an appearance on a renowned podcast, the Pat McAfee show, to plug his forthcoming participation alongside Graff in Pickeball Slam 2. During the interview the host asked if the tennis power couple were ready to make a splash at the high-profile event.

McAfee asked: “It’s like couple’s pickleball. Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi. You guys have been preparing? You’ve got moves, you got strategy, you’re are ready?"

Taking an unexpected approach with his response, Agassi said: “Let’s be on the record. If she ever leaves me, I get half her Slams, right? That puts me about 29, so I think Novak has a long way to go.”

Although Agassi's joking intentions were clear, his grasp of maths has been brought into question. Graf's haul of 22 grand slams halved would only put Agassi on 19 slams along with the eight he won himself. That would still leave him five short of Djokovic's record-breaking total.

Despite mapping out his divorce strategy, Agassi and Graf have been happily married for 22 years. The American star explained in the same interview how playing pickleball together was a big deal for them both and can even become a little challenging.

Agassi said: “I have been playing it with my wife too, which, by the way, can either add a great deal to your relationship or it can ruin it. So you gotta be careful with that one.”

Agassi and Graf will face another star pairing at Pickleball Slam 2 in the form of John McEnroe and Russian star Maria Sharapova.

Agassi may never catch up with Djokovic in terms of slams but he still has one record that has so far eluded the Serbian. Agassi won a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics and having won all four grand slams is one of the few players to have won the 'Golden Slam'.

Although no one can match Djokovic's overall slam record, his best performance at the Olympics is a bronze medal in 2008.
