While a chemical cleaner is often the best way to remove grease and grime, many people opt for a “non-toxic” method using and .

Sarah Dempsey, expert at MyJobQuote.co.uk, said: “Baking soda and white vinegar will work wonders. You can find these two ingredients in the majority of kitchen cupboards.

“When these two ingredients are combined, they can provide exceptional cleaning power. Start by making a paste out of baking soda and water, use a ratio of a few tablespoons of water with half a cup of baking soda.

“Once your mixture is a spreadable consistency, coat the interior of your oven generously. Pay attention to any areas that have extra build-up, and steer clear of any heating elements.

“For the best results, allow the paste to sit on top of the grease overnight. This will provide enough time for the baking soda to sufficiently break down any grease, dirt and grime.”

After around 12 hours, use a damp cloth to wipe over the oven, trying to remove as much of the grease as possible.

If some areas remain stubborn, use a silicone spatula to help loosen the dirt and grime even further, but avoid using any metal tools.

The expert continued: “Pour some white vinegar into a spray bottle and dilute with a little bit of water. Then, spray around the inside of the oven.

“Pay particular attention to any stubborn areas. Allow the vinegar to react with any of the remaining baking soda paste, you may notice it begin to fizz and foam a little.

“Lastly, take a clean, damp cloth and wipe the inside of the oven to remove all of the white vinegar and any remaining paste.

“Add more water or vinegar if needed, until your oven’s interior is sparkling clean.”

Both white vinegar and baking soda can be picked up for under £1 from supermarkets.

If you don’t have any baking soda or white vinegar to hand, the expert recommended using lemons and squeezing the juice into an oven-proof tray, filled with water.

Next, place the tray inside the oven, closing the door and letting it work for around 30 minutes on low heat.

The cleaning pro said: “The lemon juice and steam will work wonders to help loosen any debris and melt away any grease or grime.

“Allow your oven to cool before wiping over the interior with a clean, damp cloth to remove the remaining residue.”
