UK’s famed tolerance stretched to breaking point, it’s time to bite back - Carole Malone

Antisemitism has risen so fast it is almost the accepted norm to some Brits, especially the young. The fact shames our nation, writes Carole Malone.

In the three weeks since Hamas’ barbarous attack on Israel the world has changed. It feels like the wheels have come off. It feels like rationality, good sense and compassion have been annihilated along with the 1,400 Israeli citizens slaughtered by those Hamas monsters.

And in the aftermath of that attack and the subsequent deaths of thousands of Palestinians a blatant and terrifying antisemitism has risen phoenix like out of the horror and the shock and spread through this country like some malevolent virus and made it an acceptable form of racism in Britain.

It is now openly practised on our streets - especially by the young - and it’s spoken about as if it’s now “the norm” and that this hatred of, or at least antipathy towards, the Jewish people, is somehow justified.

Jews here are now being targeted, cancelled, threatened and abused - especially if they dare to have an opinion on what’s currently happening. Ditto, the people who dare to speak out in support of them.

How in God’s name did we get here? How did we get to a place nearly 80 years after we promised the Jewish people that what happened during the Holocaust would never happen again – and it IS happening again?

As the brilliant writer Douglas Murray said last weekend: “There are times when you wonder how history happened. And other times when you realise how it did. The past two weeks have been one such time.”

And he’s right. Just two years ago when Corbyn and his mob were accused of antisemitism they were reviled. We talked about them, quite rightly, as if they were scum.

But now we’re giving those same people a platform from which to spout their hateful views – and some of those views are coming from those inside the Labour Party - Andy McDonald, the Labour MP for Middlesbrough who has now been suspended and the man who supported him, John O’Donnell, who should be. And THIS is the party that could be running the county this time next year.

They’re precisely the people who will “normalise” the view that it’s perfectly acceptable to be antisemitic – when, of course, it isn’t. It’s vile. Because no historical wrong re Palestine can ever be used to justify Hamas’ atrocities today.

I see and feel the fear that Jewish people are feeling and even though the rest of us see it - it isn’t being properly challenged or stopped by those who have the power to stop it.

And yes, I’m talking about our impotent, useless police forces who have stood idly by at those Pro-Palestinian marches and allowed people to scream, “Jihad” and “Allahu Akbar” and “From the river to the sea” – and done nothing.

Every week the chants get louder and are being screamed more viciously, more violently because no-one – not even those whose job it is to keep law and order - dare to stop them for fear of inflaming racial and religious tensions.

Seriously? So is it now the case that people who follow certain religions in this county are immune to British law?

Day by day the hate intensifies and Jews here become more scared. Now, this week it's been revealed that top Israeli fashion designer Dodo Bar Or’s clothing lines have been dumped from the luxury shopping platform Net- a-Porter because she dared to say that Hamas equals ISIS – which is clearly true as this week the terror group vowed to keep repeating the Oct 7 atrocities until “Israel is annihilated”.

Dodo’s view is one that’s been expressed around the world. In fact FBI boss, Christopher Wray, went further this week and said that Hamas poses the greatest terror threat since Islamic State. And, he says there’s a very real possibility that Hamas may exploit the current conflict to perpetrate attacks in the West.

So Wray can say that but when Dodo Bar Or says it the ludicrous Net-a-Porter group cancels her. I mean how bloody dare they?

Dodo Bar Or has been cancelled for no other reason than she’s Jewish and because she said what she believes Hamas to be.

And call it an obscene co incidence but on the day Net-a-Porter tried to cancel her we were told that the 22-year-old Israel tattoo artist, Shani Louk, whose naked body was paraded and spat on by Hamas monsters before unspeakable tortures were inflicted on her, was beheaded by those same monsters.

How many more companies are going to act like what happened to Shani Louk and the hundreds of others who were murdered and brutalised for no other reason than the fact they’re Jewish was nothing?

How many more businesses are going to show us they don’t care about beheaded and disembowelled babies anywhere near as much as they do about virtue signalling.

Because what has happened to Dodo Bar Or is naked antisemitism and Net-a-Porter should - and is - being publicly shamed for it.

Well, here’s what I hope - that tens of thousands of people now “cancel” Net- a-Porter and don’t buy their clothes, which as ludicrously overpriced if you ask me anyway.

This online clothing company’s joke of a mission statement actually reads: “We are committed to leading meaningful positive change and investing in our diverse global community.”

Yeah, just not Jews apparently!

Net-a-Porter imagines it is speaking from the moral high ground so wouldn’t it be interesting to look at ITS own business practices. Just a cursory look tells me that in January this year the group was fined 5.2M Euros over misleading pricing and its return policy. So Hey, not rating terribly high in the morality stakes there.

Which is why those in the fashion industry really have no place on the moral high ground.

Also what exactly have police done about the Pro-Palestinian supporter at the weekend who emptied a box full of mice painted in the colours of the Palestinian flag into a McDonalds burger joint shouting “f*ck Israel.”

A 32-year-old man has been arrested but has he been charged and will he appear in court. And if not why not? Because if he hasn’t then police are saying it’s okay to do what he did - target businesses who support Jewish people? Isn’t that what the Nazis did?

We’re moving into very dangerous territory in this so-called democracy of ours. We’re allowing people of one religion to be cancelled, abused, terrorised by another.

This country’s so-called “tolerance” which has allowed religions to flourish here that don’t chime with Britain’s values or its beliefs, religions that advocate the death and destruction of non-believers, is coming back to bite us all on the backside.

It literally could be the death of us.
