views as a "curse on the monarchy", royal expert Tom Bower has revealed, claiming that in spite of the Duke's recent efforts to get back in contact with the royals there is little chance of their rift ending.

Last week Harry reached out to his father King Charles for this 75th birthday, however Mr Bower believes this will do little to warm relations between the warring brothers.

He told OK! magazine: "William is absolutely determined not to repair relations. His wife Kate has been hugely insulted by Harry and Meghan, and he sees Harry as a curse on the monarchy and on their lives. He has absolutely no intention of readmitting him into his life."

Mr Bower admitted that the King may see the situation differently, adding: "For Charles, the whole thing has been painful and traumatic.

"The problem is that Harry and Meghan have caused so much damage, it’s hard to imagine how to repair it. But I’m sure that the King would like a solution.

"I think Charles is an emotional man. He’s only got two sons and he was pretty close to Harry. I think winning Charles over is very easy for Harry because Charles wants to be won over. He wants forgiveness and he wants to have a relationship with his son. But it’s far too complicated."

But for William and Kate, who are now taking the "burden of the monarchy", forgiveness may be too much of a stretch, as it may be too for Queen Camilla.

Both the Queen and William came in for harsh criticism in Harry's memoir Spare, with the King also left hurt and insulted by his youngest son's words about their family.

Even though Harry and Meghan Markle were not invited to the King's low-key birthday dinner at Clarence House last Tuesday, the Duke exchanged "warm and cordial" words with his father over the phone.

It is thought Meghan spoke to him too, and she even sent a touching video message of Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet wishing their grandad a happy birthday.

The couple are believed to have had little contact with the Firm over the course of the year, with Harry last briefly seeing his father at his Coronation in May, although they had no time for a proper catch-up.

A source revealed that the call had been a "real turning point" for Charles, who has little contact with his youngest grandchildren due to them living so far away.

They added: "He was really quite taken by it. Relations between the King and his son are still very strained, but he would never let that get in the way of having a relationship with his grandchildren, who he hasn’t seen for a very long time."

The King has only met Lilibet once, when her parents brought her over to the UK for the late Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
