Princess Kate sparks uproar over 'tone deaf' BBC Children in Need appearance
This year's BBC Children in Need kicked off with a special message from The Princess of Wales.

Children in Need viewers were left less than impressed as The Princess of Wales introduced the BBC show on Friday night.
Opening the BBC fundraising programme, Princess Kate had a special message for those watching at home.
Appearing in a pre-recorded clip, the mother-of-three said: “Tonight is all about helping to support, champion and empower all children to be the very, very best they can be.
“Which is crucial for their future health and happiness.”
However, it wasn’t long before people watching took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the royal opening of the show.

@DKellyDerry commented: “A billionaire opening the Children In Need show on BBC. Asking society for donations. Tone deaf, @bbc...”
@linda_mullin added: “What the hell is Kate doing opening Children in Need? So out of touch. Not a good start.”
@Asphalt_World tweeted: “I hope Kate Middleton is going to announce a 10 per cent cut in Royal funding from public taxes. Think how much that would raise for charity!”

However, many people were thrilled to see Kate on their screens as @SabirahLohn said: “So happy to see this! Congrats to everyone involved!”
With @heidibradshaw88 adding: “Lovely to see The Princess of Wales make this speech. Thank you, Ma’am!”
During the show, fans get to see three well-known celebrities take part in a Race Across The World style challenge.
However, instead of jet-setting across the globe, the stars were tasked with venturing throughout Yorkshire.
Spanning across almost three million acres, there are plenty of places the teams could get lost along the way.
To make matters even worse, each team’s budget is limited and there are no mobile phones or credit cards allowed.
Being given a map of the county and a GPS tracker, each team has to try and reach their final checkpoint of the town Pudsey, the same name BBC Children in Need’s famous mascot.
Taking on the challenge are EastEnders stars Ian and Cindy Beale (Adam Woodyatt and Michelle Collins) Birds of a Feather’s Dorien and Tracey (Lesley Joseph and Linda Robson) and Waterloo Road’s Noel and Samia (Liam Scholes and Priyasasha Kumari).
Along the way, famous Yorkshire faces will make an appearance such as Emmerdale’s Kim Tate, Marlon Dingle and Cain Dingle actors.
