Following their steamy Argentine Tango to to Phil Collins’ song In The Air Tonight, host Claudia Winkleman asked: “What did your girlfriend Beth say when you told her you were doing the Argentine Tango?”

He replied: “Beth said ‘If I’m not jealous, you’re not doing it right.’ So, Beth I hope you’re both proud and jealous.”

Reflecting on their time together after the show, Nancy said of Rhys on Strictly: It Takes Two: "Teaching Rhys has been the most magical moment for me in this Strictly journey.

"Yes, we didn’t make it to the final but we had everyone’s support behind us. They gave us their heart, supporting us in so many ways. I’m so grateful for everything.

"For Strictly to give me this chance and to give me this wonderful person to learn from me… I also learnt some much from him."

Taking to his page, he also said as part of a lengthy statement: "I’m a little lost and sad right now but to cry and feel is great thing because it means you’re healing. I will carry the memories of this experience and my time with Nancy with me for the rest of my life.

"But on a brighter note, I can’t wait to tune in to the most diverse Strictly final there has ever been, get in 2021!"

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
