Two teenagers die in suspected drugs disaster after 13-hour rave at popular club
The teenagers had been attending a rave which started at 2pm on Saturday and finished around 3am Sunday.
Two teenagers who attended a 13-hour rave on Saturday have died in a suspected drug mishap.
The 18-year-olds were at SWG3 where the famous DJ Ben Hemsley was doing a set.
One man collapsed in the club and was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but died shortly after being admitted.
The second man was found at Croy railway station in Lanarkshire and was taken to the nearby University Hospital Monklands in Airdrie where he later died.
Police have said the families of the two men have been informed and that an investigation is underway.
One of the lines of inquiry is that the deaths are drugs related and police will try to understand whether the narcotics were from the same batch, it has been reported.
The event on Saturday was sold out and started at the Galvanisers Yard, within the complex, at 2pm. After DJ Hemsley’s set finished at 10pm, an after-party took place until 3am inside the venue with six DJs performing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.20pm on Saturday, August 12, we were called to a report of a man taking unwell in the Constarry Road area of Croy.
"Emergency services attended and an 18-year-old was taken to University Hospital Monklands in Airdrie, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
"Next of kin are aware and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
"Around 2.20am on Sunday, August 13, we were made aware a man had become unwell at a premises on Eastvale Place, Glasgow.
"An 18-year-old was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later."
A spokesperson for SWG3 said: "We are devastated at the news and our deepest sympathies are with the families.
"We will continue to assist the police with their inquiries."
SWG3 is one of Scotland's most iconic venues which was formerly a galvanizers' yard and a clutch of warehouses serving the Clyde.
