'Nightmare I can't wake up from': Mum's heartbreak over death of son on Wales camping trip

Heartbreaking tributes have been paid in memory of the four boys found dead after they went on a camping trip together.

Friends and those who know the teenagers have said they are “absolutely heartbroken” at the news that the frantic search has ended in tragic circumstances.

And the mum of one of the tragic teens says she's now in a "nightmare I can't wake up from".

People have been invited to gather at a pub in Broseley, a market town in Shropshire, near to where the boys are from to "light a candle" and remember them.

Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, Wilf Henderson and Hugo Morris were meant to arrive home on Monday morning (November 20) but never turned up - sparking a widespread search.

But police confirmed earlier today that their bodies had been found in a car, partially submerged in water in the Snowdonia region in north Wales.

Harvey's mum Crystal said on Facebook: "I feel like I’m in a nightmare I wish I could wake up from but I’m not. I just wanted to say I do appreciate people’s kindness but no amount of messages is going to help me overcome this. Nothing will make this nightmare go away."

In a tribute posted on Instagram, Wilf’s girlfriend, Maddi, said: “I’m going to miss you forever. The sweetest and most loving boy I’ve ever known. Thank you for loving me endlessly, I promise I’ll do the same for you. I can’t imagine my world without you.”

Her mother, Lisa Corfield, said: “Wilf was such a lovely kind lad and treated Maddi in a way only a mother could hope her daughter be treated. Maddi is heartbroken and we will all miss you dearly Wilf.”

Tributes have also flooded in from friends.

One post on Facebook from The Pipe Makers Arms Broseley said: “We are saddened to hear the tragic news today of the missing Shrewsbury boys Jevon Hirst, Wilf Fitchett, Harvey Owen and Hugo Morris.

“Our family knew some of the boys and we know that this news really has saddened so many of you in our community therefore we will be lighting candles at the Pipe Makers tomorrow evening and you are welcome to join and light a candle if you wish.”

Posting on Jevon’s Instagram account one emotional tribute said: “Rest in peace jev we are heartbroken it fly high beautiful angel.”

Liz Saville Roberts, the local MP and Welsh Seredd Member Mabon ap Gwynfor, said: “This news is truly heartbreaking and foremost as parents ourselves, our thoughts go out to the families and friends of the four young men whose lives have been lost in this tragic accident.

“We would like to pay tribute to the emergency services and local mountain rescue teams involved in the search operation, and to members of the public for their assistance in helping to locate the vehicle.

“No words can sufficiently reflect the sorrow that this news brings to our whole community.”

Police said four bodies were recovered from a car which appears to have left the road on the A4085 at Garreg, near Tremadog.

Supt Owain Llewelyn, of North Wales Police, said: "At present, this appears to have been a tragic accident, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the four young men at this very difficult time

"This has been an extensive search involving a number of different agencies and volunteers, and this is sadly not the outcome that any of us would have wanted.

"We would ask that the family be afforded the appropriate privacy and respect."

Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances, police said.
