The pretty little UK seaside village with bizarre name that sounds like it should be in US
Its US counterpart hosts Hollywood, the Golden Gate Bridge and Yosemite National Park but few know about the UK's own California located on the Norfolk coast.
While its US counterpart hosts world famous landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge, Hollywood and Yosemite National Park, not many people are aware that the UK has its own California.
Situated next to Great Yarmouth on the Norfolk coast, the small village has none of the bright lights and towering buildings of America's most populous state, however it does have its own sandy beach offering far more privacy than those in Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco.
Instead, Norfolk's California is merged with nearby Scratby and has a fish and chip shop named The Codfather, quaint holiday chalets and the California Cliffs Adventure Playground.
It even has its own pub, the California Tavern, which regularly hosts beer festivals and live music.
The village takes its name from the US California, after 16th century gold coins were found in the area in 1848, when the California Gold Rush had captured the imagination of the world.
The UK place taking its name from its US cousin makes for a stark contrast from the hundreds of American cities which have been named after British places including Boston, Plymouth and Birmingham.
Even a number of the location's roads are named after the US state with drivers able to travel along California Crescent, California Avenue and California Road.
Visit Norfolk describes California as "peaceful and picturesque" while having low cliffs and a "glorious stretch of sandy beach".

The wide beach is also dog-friendly and perfect for families.
There are a number of food options in the village including the Boat House Bar and Restaurant offering pub classics such as fish and chips.
Those wishing to visit Norfolk's California can book in to a chalet at its California Sands Holiday park for about £200 for a weekend.
