The weather across the UK will turn decidedly wintry as a cold snap nears the country, according to the latest weather maps.

Forecasts on WXCharts show the intense band of freezing wind will hit the UK between Friday, November 24 and Monday, November 27.

The latest weather maps show freezing temperatures dominating much of the UK during this final November.

However, Scotland and northern England are worst hit, as the temperatures plunge below zero.

The chart on WXCharts also forecasts that Scotland could be blanketed in snow throughout the weekend.

The latest weather maps echo a forecast from James Madden, a forecaster for Exacta Weather, who warned that "it is now increasingly likely that we will see at least 1-2 notable wintry blasts from late November and into the first half of December".

Unfortunately, his forecast warned of an even colder December in the run-up to Christmas.

He said: "A sudden stratospheric warming event from later this month and into December could change that outlook to an even colder and more wintry theme for many parts of the country, and would drastically change the overall outlook for December as a whole.

"There is a chance we could see a number of wintry blasts in the run-up to Christmas.”

A forecast from the Met Office warned that temperatures will increasingly "turn colder in northern areas" at the end of the month.

The long-range BBC forecast claims that the November snow blast will only be "sufficient to deliver some wintry showers to high elevations in the northern UK".

Meanwhile, ahead of the new week, the Met Office has issued several yellow weather alerts and an amber warning for severe wind from tomorrow onwards as Storm Debi descends on the UK.

The amber warning states: "A spell of very strong winds is expected to develop on Monday morning across County Armagh and County Down in association with Storm Debi.

"Inland gusts of 60 to 65 mph are likely in places whilst along the coast gusts of up to 75 mph are expected. Winds will gradually ease during the afternoon."

Met Office forecasters have told people to stay alert for 18 hours, with the winds to pick up in the early hours as people travel to work.

Among the many risks to people in dozens of areas are flying debris and large waves that meteorologists believe could endanger people's lives over the coming day.
