Unwanted dog dumped on Valentine's Day still looking for love after nearly 300 days

An abandoned dog is hoping to find love this winter after being left out in the street on Valentine's Day this year. 

Billy, a nine-year-old Staffie who was dumped in Camden earlier this year, has spent more than 280 days in RSPCA care.  

The RSPCA is still hoping to find a loving forever home for the abandoned bull terrier who is the animal star of the Omaze and RSPCA partnership. 

Billy was very stressed after the horrible ordeal but the staff at RSPCA Finsbury Park Hospital soon realised how lovely and friendly he is. 

After some dental work and treatment for an upset tummy, Billy was trasnferred to RSPCA Southridge in Potters Bar in April. He does however still require ongoing pain medication for his mobility.

Anna White, manager at RSPCA Southridge, said: “Billy has such a sweet nature. He was sadly abandoned and handed into our London hospital earlier in the year. You could tell from the hospital notes just how much they loved him there and we feel the same. Billy just adores people and loves fuss.”

It was this friendly nature that landed him the very important job of starring in the Omaze’s Somerset house draw with actress and RSPCA Ambassador Joanna Page.

Billy posed for pictures and was part of a video helping to spread the word about the draw which offers one lucky person a chance to win a house and £100,000 in cash, while also raising money to help rescue animals in need like Billy.

Anna said: “He was such a star at the Omaze shoot and I’m told that everyone loved him there too. We really hope his 15 minutes of fame will help find him the living home he so deserves.

“We think he needs a home where his owners will be around most of the time as he loves company so much. Billy is a playful dog and needs his own secure garden where he can run about with his toys as much as he likes. He is a fab walking buddy who walks lovely on his lead and he's a big fan of food, treats and chews.

“Little is known about Billy’s background and the kind of home he lived in before because he was so callously dumped. We therefore think Billy may be able to live with another dog, pending successful introductions, but he will need an adult-only home.”
